Career Camp Broadens Horizons

The Faraja Primary School campus is usually quiet during June, when students and staff enjoy a month-long holiday.

But not this year! After the school term ended on June 7, the campus was transformed by Faraja's first Career Camp. This two-week event was a unique opportunity for Faraja students and recent graduates to learn about entrepreneurship and employment opportunities. They also created their own art and tried out practical trades like carpentry, tailoring, and welding.

In addition, camp participants enjoyed two field trips; they visited Shah Industries in Moshi and the Shanga workshop in Arusha.

For young Tanzanians with physical disabilities, identifying a realistic path for employment or self-employment is a critical step on the path to a lifetime of opportunity, independence, and dignity. For these Faraja students and graduates, Career Camp was a chance to explore, learn, and grow.

Career Camp was sponsored by the Faraja Youth Group, a team of young professionals from all over the United States who work together to support Faraja Primary School by raising awareness and providing financial support. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the FYG's fundraising efforts. You made Career Camp possible!
